POWERPOINT SCHEDULE CHANGE!
FYI: The PowerPoint class has been expanded to include grades 6 through 12. The class will focus on learning amazing animation techniques. This is a skill that lasts a lifetime...so don't miss out! Students can still sign up. The class is offered on Thursdays, 5th period (2-3pm).

OPEN REGISTRATION!
All families are invited to fill in their schedules as needed this week for second semester. The new semester starts on Monday, January 30th.

WRITER'S CONTEST WINNERS ARE ANNOUNCED!

Congratulations are in order for our 9-12 Writer's Contest Winners. An award ceremony will take place this week on Wednesday, January 25th at 3:30pm.

First Place - Lydia Carlson for "Strange Occurrences"
Second Place - Katie Cade for "The Hopping Street Incident"
Third Place - Dominic Jones for "The Note"

SILVERWOOD "READING IS THE TICKET" IS ON NOW!

The Silverwood Reading Program starts now for students k-8th grades. Students can earn a free admission ticket to Silverwood Theme Park by achieving 10 hours of recreational reading time. Parents can sign up their students in the library and pick up tally sheets to keep a record of reading for each student. Remember...reading that is done for school or homework does NOT count. Tally sheets MUST be signed by a parent and turned in no later than March 15, 2012. See librarian for more details.

MAP Assessment results from Monday, January 23rd are available. You view assesment results by logging in then clicking Student Assessments.
Sign up for MAP assessments online by logging in to the Home Link website, then click Events Signup. Look for the Monday you want to have your child assessed on, then click the plus sign.
Assessment results will be posted by the following Wednesday.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the play last weekend. What a treat! Thank you for all your hard work and a wonderful performance!

Writers’ Contest Winners and Awards Ceremony
Congratulations to the winners of our writing contest: Lydia Carlson – 1st, Katie Cade – 2nd, Dominic Jones – 3rd. The Awards Ceremony will be this Thursday at 3:30 pm in the board room.

Seniors and Parents of Seniors looking at college and wanting college loans– FAFSA Clinic this Thursday, Jan. 26th at the High School 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
There will be a clinic this Thursday in the High School Library Computer Lab to help you fill out the FAFSA. Please take advantage of this as the FAFSA should be in now!

The HSPE (High School Proficiency Exam) for 10th graders is coming in March. Our practice sessions are starting next Thursday, Feb. 2nd. There will be one practice each week until the exam. Practice sessions will be held in the Science Room in Deer Park after school at 3:30 each day. The practice session dates are: Feb. 2nd, 8th, 14th, 21st, 29th and Mar. 8th.

SILVERWOOD “READING IS THE TICKET” for grades K – 8
Your children can earn a free ticket to Silverwood by logging 10 hrs. of recreational reading between now and March 15th. Pick up your tally sheets in the library. They must be signed by a parent and returned no later than March 15th.

GAME NIGHT IS COMING SOON – Friday, Feb. 24th at 6:00 pm at the Middle School
Now is the time to sign up for a team (volleyball and/or basketball) and begin practicing!
Staff, parents and students grades 7 and up – sign up for a volleyball and/or basketball team. We need your talent and energy. Practice times are: Basketball – Feb. 13th 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Volleyball – Feb. 16th 5:00 – 6:00 pm. Both teams will practice on Feb. 21st. Volleyball practice will be from 6:00 to 7:00 and Basketball will be 7:00 – 8:00 that night. You must attend at least one practice session to be able to play the night of the game. Concessions will be available on Game Night.

MAP TESTING
We are now in the winter window of MAP testing. If you would like to take advantage of the testing service to see how your child is doing in math, reading and language arts, you may sign up on-line under events. All testing is done on Monday mornings at Clayton.
