We are a Parent Partnership Program where parents of home schooled children and teachers from the Deer Park School District work together to define the educational goals and materials our parents and students use at home. The first session of Home Link started in September 2000 with 38 students. Today, we have over 500 students. We also provide core and enrichment classes at our Deer Park and Clayton campuses.

HOME LINK MEMO
February 1st – 5th, 2010

Skating at Riverfront Park is this Friday, Feb. 5th, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
You may sign up on-line for this event through Thursday. The cost is $4 including skate rental. Home Link will pay for our students and one parent. Please check in promptly at 1:00 with Gina and bring exact change. If you have signed up and are not going, please disenroll on-line. If you do not disenroll, you will be charged the $4 per person. After Thursday, you will have to call the front desk to let us know if you are not coming.

HIGH SCHOOL PROFICIENCY EXAM PREP BEGINS THIS TUESDAY!
This is the replacement for the WASL. It is much like the WASL – but shorter. Students still need to pass the reading and writing portions of this test to earn a high school diploma. Our first prep session is Tuesday, Feb 2 in the science classroom at Deer Park at 4:00 pm. The reading and writing portions of the test will be given March 16 – 18. There will be a practice session each week until the test is given. Then we will gear up for the math and science portions which are given in April.

LIBRARY POLICY
Due to the large number of overdue books currently out (over 400!) we will no longer be checking out material to anyone who has overdue books. Also, you will be billed for any damaged or lost material to cover the cost to replace these items. We are fortunate to have our libraries and want to be able to continue offering this service to our families.

MAP ASSESSMENT WINTER WINDOW CLOSES THE END OF THIS MONTH.
You may sign up on-line for a Friday morning or afternoon session. There is no afternoon session this coming Friday due to Skate Day or next Friday due to Presidents’ Day Break. The MAP has been a great tool for parents to see their children’s academic strengths and weaknesses – and the results come back within days! If you have any questions, please talk with your consultant.

WINTER BREAK IS FEBRUARY 12 -15. There will be no school that Friday or Monday and all school offices will be closed.

HELP!! OUR LUNCH COUNT IS OFF – WAY OFF!!!
Last week we ran out of lunches because families aren’t calling in when they want to have hot lunch. We need to know no later than 9:00 the morning of the day you want to have hot lunch. If you know your children will always be eating hot lunch, you can tell us in advance so that you do not to call every day.

STUDENTS RIDING WITH STUDENTS
Students who are driving to Home Link are not to transport other students other than family members. This is a district liability issue. If you are not driving yourself, or riding with a parent, you should be taking the bus between buildings.
